After 402 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Kentucky Wednesday, Governor Andy Beshear announced he will enact new mandatory requirements that will be made public Thursday. He said the rising case numbers are cause for concern, and with the exploding numbers they are seeing in certain locations across the country his commitment is to make sure that doesn’t happen in Kentucky, but added he cannot do it alone.

The governor reported the newly confirmed cases Wednesday bringing the statewide total of coronavirus cases to at least 17,919 with 4,912 of those recovered. He also reported six new deaths, raising the state’s death toll to 608 related to the virus.

As of Wednesday, there have been at least 451,451 COVID-19 tests performed in the state.

The governor will hold a news conference Thursday afternoon at 3:00 local time, and he also announced an additional news briefing Friday afternoon at 3:00.
