The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library is hosting its first StoryWalk.

Library officials say the StoryWalk is an interactive, outdoor reading experience in which participants will read a book by walking from page to page and discovering bonus activities along the way. The temporary fixture will be featured on the greenway trail, between the library and the bridge near West Side Park until Saturday, August 1, with the reading activity covering roughly a quarter of a mile.

Youth Services Librarian Jennifer Annis-Domenech says the StoryWalk offers a great opportunity to blend wellness and literacy. She says in addition to reading the books on the signs and walking along the trail, participants will be encouraged to skip, jump, hop, and sing.

Annis-Domenech says the two books featured in the StoryWalk will be The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs and A is for Another Rabbit. She adds they hope this is just the first of many StoryWalks to come.

According to library officials, the StoryWalk project was completed and made possible in part by a grant from Kentucky Humanities and in partnership with the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in collaboration with the Kellog-Hubbard Library.
