Limited Driver’s License Services Resume Statewide

Limited driver’s license services have now resumed statewide.

Caldwell County Circuit Court Clerk Danny Hooks states the Administrative Office of the Courts announced Friday that services would resume Monday, June 1st but would include a few limitations. He adds individuals who need to renew or receive a new driver’s license, permit, or ID card that expired, or was lost, before March 1st can do so through a scheduled in-person visit to their Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.

However, Hooks notes those individuals with a driver’s license, permit, or ID card that expired, or was lost, between March 1st and June 30th must apply through a remote application process. He explains in order to apply the individual must complete an application form, found here, then submit the application and payment by email, mail, or drop box to their Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will then make their existing photo available to the circuit court clerk so a new photo will not need to be submitted.

Hooks states individuals can pay by check or money order by mail or cash, check, or money order by drop box. Individuals may also pay with a credit or debit card, although all payments received will be taken over the phone and will include a small processing fee. Once the application has been processed it will take five to seven days to receive new credentials by mail.

Driver’s license services were suspended March 18th when Governor Andy Beshear closed in-person government services due to the coronavirus pandemic and a 90-day extension to maintain the validity of licenses that expired during office closures was issued soon after.
