COVID-19 Cases Stable at Green River Correctional Complex

Mass testing following a COVID-19 outbreak at the Green River Correctional Complex has shown a stabilization of cases involving inmates and staff.

After 358 inmates and 50 staff members at the facility tested positive for the coronavirus, the Muhlenberg County prison was divided into distinct housing areas, and inmates were housed based on the results of their COVID-19 test

Executive Cabinet Secretary Michael Brown said retesting has seen six new inmates and one new staff member test positive, while 80-percent of the staff have recovered. He said one staff member and no inmates are hospitalized

The Green River Complex has accounted for 29-percent of the state’s COVID-19 cases among residents of long-term care facilities and eight-percent of staff members.
