Kentucky Reaches 400 COVID-19 Deaths But Cases Still Declining

Kentucky’s COVID-19 numbers continue to decline although the state became the 29th in the nation to report 400 virus-related deaths.

Governor Andy Beshear said one of the six deaths reported Wednesday was from Hopkins County, where 29 people have died from the coronavirus. However, numbers there have leveled off in the past two weeks.

Beshear said the state continues to see a decline in new cases. He reported 127 new cases Wednesday, the third straight day of less than 130. The last time that happened was April 6.

The number of hospitalizations has increased eight-percent in the past week while those in intensive care in the state are down 19-percent.

Long-term care facilities continue to produce a high case rate with 19-percent of the state’s cases and 56-percent of the state’s deaths. Nationwide, the COVID-19 death rate is 43% with Kentucky’s death rate in long-term care facilities ranking 13th highest in the nation.

A total of 3,124 people have recovered from the virus with 22 of those coming in the last four days.
