Magistrates Approve First Reading Of 2020-2021 Budget

Christian County Fiscal Court magistrates unanimously approved the first reading of the county’s budget for 2020-2021.

Prior to presenting the budget at Tuesday morning’s meeting, Judge-Executive Steve Tribble said it has many challenges with deductions in several areas.

Judge Tribble said the budget is more than $29 million with a decrease of over $659,000 from the prior year’s budget.

He said $3.39 million has been appropriated for the operation of the road and bridge fund, with $1.3 million out of that amount appropriated for asphalt. Judge-Tribble added the reduction in funding from the state-county road aid fund will mean less asphalt applied on county roads.

He added there is 483.3 miles of roads in the county and 444.6 miles have been paved.Judge Tribble said the budget also includes funding the Trilogy Recovery Project for Women along with upgrades to the courthouse.

Additionally, he said the Christian County Jail budget is $8.3 million and also includes a 2.3% cost of living pay increase for county employees.In other business, magistrates unanimously approved the 2020 Waste Tire Agreement with a $4,000 tire disposal fee and a resolution regarding the Christian County Durg Court grant for $40,000.

The next regular fiscal court meeting will be Tuesday morning, June 9, at 8:30.
