U.S. Rep. Joe Cunningham Tests Positive For COVID-19

A United States Representative from South Carolina with ties to the local area has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to WTOC-TV in Savannah, Representative Joe Cunningham, son of Lyon County native and former Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Bill Cunningham, confirmed via social media that he tested positive for the virus. Congressman Cunningham stated that he has been in self-quarantine since March 19th after learning he came into contact with another member of Congress who tested positive.

He added that while he currently feels fine he has been unable to smell or taste since March 17th, which medical officials say is a potential symptom of COVID-19.

Congressman Cunningham, who grew up in Kuttawa and graduated from Lyon County High School, represents South Carolina’s First District.
