Health officials confirmed Tuesday there are no new COVID-19 cases in Christian County with the three people who have tested positive for the virus resting at home in self-isolation.
Beth Magraw, chief nursing officer at Jennie Stuart Medical Center, said 30 COVID-19 tests were taken in Christian County Friday. 12 of the 13 tests have come back negative. The lone positive was a 21-year-old resident that was made public on Monday.
While there have been no new positive tests for the virus in Christian County since Monday, Amanda Sweeney, the director of marketing for the health department, says anyone who came in direct contact with Monday’s positive test are being contacted.
right-click to download mp3Sweeney said the health department has been working with local businesses who are violating Governor Andy Beshear’s closure order of non-essential businesses.

Health Department Director Kayla Bebout said one Christian County business has been shut down for failing to comply with the closure order and follow-up by the health department. She declined to name the business, citing a “protection of the business” by the health department. Bebout says local law enforcement and emergency management serve as the go-between for those businesses who defy the statewide order and subsequent follow up by the health department.

The state has created a hotline to report businesses and employers who are continuing to operate in defiance of the governor’s order. That number is 1-833-597-2337. Local officials said they were not sure how those reported would be handled and whether it would be at the state or local level.
Sweeney said the health department provide updates each Tuesday and Friday unless more positive COVID-19 tests are made known to them.
