Dempsey Appointed Chairman Of Anesthesia Service Line

A well-known anesthesiologist in the area has been appointed as chairman of the Anesthesia System Service Line for all of Baptist Health.

Baptist Hospital officials announced recently that Dr. Joseph Dempsey, who serves as Anesthesia Medical Director for Baptist Health Madisonville, will serve as chairman of the newly formed Anesthesia System Service Line for all of Baptist Health.  The purpose of the newly formed Anesthesia System Service Line is to provide the highest quality and integrated anesthesiology services care to enhance the health of the people in communities served by Baptist Health. Officials indicate Baptist Health has eight surgical locations in Kentucky and one in Indiana with a combined 280 anesthesia providers.

The Anesthesia Service Line will set goals and quality metrics for Baptist Health system, identify best practices, provide input and oversight for the advancement of clinical excellence, patient safety, patient experience and service excellence in all anesthesia settings at Baptist Health system. The Committee will also develop policies and procedures as needed for clinical management for anesthesia, serve as an advisory council for system strategies, and coordinate educational opportunities for clinicians.

According to hospital officials, Dr. Dempsey joined Baptist Health Madisonville on September 1, 2016, after previously serving as an anesthesiologist with Christian County Anesthesia at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville for 31-years from June 1985 through August 2016, including two tenures as Medical Staff President at Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

Dr. Dempsey also serves as vice-chair of the Christian County Board of Health in Hopkinsville.
