SWK EDC Working On Interstate 24 Industrial Connector Grant

The South West Kentucky Economic Development Council (SWK EDC) will be working on the application for a Build Grant through the Federal Highway Administration to help the expansion of a roadway in southern Christian County.

Director Carter Hendricks told EDC board members during their meeting Monday afternoon that this will be the second year they have attempted to get a grant for the Interstate 24 Industrial Connector project.

Commerce Park II is located off of John Rivers Road in Pembroke, with Hendricks adding they hope the state includes this project as one of their priorities.

The Highway 79 project would help to expand the road near Novelis in Guthrie and open the area up for more possible industry growth in the future.

In addition, chairman Lee Conrad says they will be looking for a new secretary since Betsy Shelton has left the board.

Conrad adds before their next meeting on March 30, the nominating committee will nominate a new secretary. The committee is comprised of Conrad, interim Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch, Christian County Judge/Executive Steve Tribble, Trigg County Judge/Executive Hollis Alexander, and Todd County Judge/Executive Todd Mansfield.

Shelton represented First Financial Bank on the board and now Market President John Peck will fill her seat.
