Area Could See Heavy Rain Thursday Through Saturday

Forecasters are calling for some heavy rain, that could cause flooding, to end the week and start the weekend.

During a Paducah National Weather Service teleconference Tuesday afternoon, Hydrologist Mary Lamm says current forecast models indicate the region could see upwards of five inches of rainfall beginning Thursday and continuing through Saturday.

Lamm notes flooding could be a big concern for area rivers and remain a concern for the next few weeks.

Warning Coordination Meteorologist Rick Shanklin adds wind gusts will also be a concern Thursday through Saturday.

He notes wind gusts could reach 40 mph or greater Friday and Saturday and paired with the heavy rainfall that could cause some trees to fall down.

As we get closer to the event, models have also started to show the possibility of severe weather late Friday night into Saturday.

Lamm adds the event will bring some more unseasonable temperatures to the region.
