CCSO Warns About Writing Dates For 2020

Now that we are in a new decade, the Christian County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn everyone about writing the new dates for the year 2020.

Because we write the date almost daily, authorities say there are two ways to write an abbreviated date. Some people use the method, “01/02/2020”, and others use an even shorter abbreviation, for example,“01/02/20”. Law enforcement agencies recommend that you include the entire 4-digit year, such as “2020”, which eliminates the possibility of someone manipulating the date, by adding 17, 18, or 19 to the “20”, making it appear the document was dated prior to this year. Authorities say this is important when dealing with legal documents or any paperwork you may fill out for the new year.
