Former Governor Matt Bevin has commuted the sentence of Dayton Jones, who admitted to his role in a brutal sexual assault of a 15-year old male at a party at a residence on Lafayette Road in 2014.

The executive order signed by Bevin on December 9 says Jones’ sentence was commuted to time served.

As previously reported by the News Edge, Jones was sentenced to 15-years in prison with no possibility of parole after he entered a guilty plea in August 2016 to first-degree sodomy, first-degree wanton endangerment, and first-degree distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

During a hearing on June 6, 2019, Christian Circuit Court Judge John Atkins denied a motion filed by Jones’ attorney, Steve Hargrove, to vacate his sentence. Judge Atkins then ordered Jones to remain in the custody of the Department of Corrections at the Luckett Correctional Complex in LaGrange. He also stated Jones’ would be registered as a sex offender.

Jones, along with co-defendents — Tyler Perry, Colton Cavanaugh, and Samual Miller entered into plea agreements with the Commonwealth Attorney’s office and guilty pleas to the sexual assault of the male juvenile in October 2014. The assault was also captured on video and shared on social media. The male victim suffered severe internal injuries as a result of the assault.
