Mayor Challenges Community To Step Up During Hopkinsville 9-11 Ceremony

Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks is challenging the community to step up as we remember the sacrifice of those who died on September 11, 2001.

Several firefighters, police officers, first responders and community members were on hand for the 9-11 Ceremony and Memorial Stair Climb Wednesday morning at the Hopkinsville Fire Department.

After noting the loss of more than 3,000 Americans died when our country was attacked on September 11, 2001, Mayor Hendricks said our community was not immune to loss.

Hendricks challenged those on hand and the community to be willing to make their own sacrifice.

And he said it is critical to honor the commitment of those who protect us each day.

Meanwhile, Hopkinsville Fire Chief Steve Futtrell said the memorial climb is held to remember the first responders who gave their all 18 years ago.

Following the ceremony, Mayor Hendricks joined Hopkinsville Firefighters in climbing the stairs in the training tower behind the department 343 times to honor the sacrifice of the first responders that died on September 11, 2001.
