Mounts Convicted, Sentenced To Life In Mother’s Murder

A Hopkinsville man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after he was convicted by a jury Tuesday afternoon in the 2014 murder of his mother.

The trial of Jamal Mounts began in Christian Circuit Court before Judge Andrew Self Monday morning and concluded Tuesday afternoon. He was standing trial in the murder of his mother 65-year old Roxie Mounts, who was found unresponsive in the breezeway at the Mason’s Pointe Apartments on Elm Street in March 2014. He was also facing other charges including attempted murder and assault of a neighbor, Marvelyn Spray.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling tells the News Edge Mounts was found guilty on all offenses.

Boling says formal sentencing is scheduled for October 3, 2019.
