Trigg Fiscal Court Approves Emergency Budget Amendment

Trigg County Fiscal Court members approved an emergency budget amendment, the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office budget, and an agreement with PACS for the senior citizens center during their meeting Tuesday evening.

Treasurer Lucy Kyler told members they need to approve the emergency budget amendment in order to return some funds back into their allotted spots in the General Fund because when the budget was created there was no indication that a tax would be created for the hospital.

Trigg County Judge/Executive Hollis Alexander says with taxes collected, they have taken in $1,548,000 for the hospital. Magistrates approved a partial payment of $400,000 during a special called meeting in late November to go to the hospital. The rest of the funds collected will be going to the hospital soon.

Trigg County Sheriff Jason Barnes

Trigg County Sheriff Jason Barnes presented his first budget as sheriff. Alexander notes the budget will see an increase of over $50,000.

One thing Barnes pointed out on his budget is the potential addition of a K-9 unit for the county. Barnes’ budget does include $3,000 for food and vet bills, and he adds they are actively searching for a dog to add to the sheriff’s office.

Magistrates unanimously approved the budget for the sheriff’s office.

In other business, magistrates approved a memorandum of understanding with Pennyrile Allied Community Services to help the Trigg County Seniors Citizens Center stay under normal operations after $49,000 in budget cuts. Alexander says Trigg County Fiscal Court will pay the money needed to help keep the center open five days a week and to keep meals cooked in the center.

Alexander adds the center has already raised a good amount of money, which means it is less the court will actually have to pay this year.

Dunn says they held a meeting Tuesday afternoon to get to know one another and heard from PADD’s Ashley Johnson on potential grants for the project. She adds the next step will be to look for land for the project.

Members of Cadiz City Council, Trigg Fiscal Court, Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism, Trigg County Parks and Recreation, and the school district will continue to discuss the idea further in the near future.

Magistrates also approved to re-appoint District 1 Magistrate Mike Wright to the Trigg County Hospital Board. He will serve on that board through 2022.
