Friends Of LBL Need Volunteers To Clean Up Park

The Friends of Land Between the Lakes is looking for volunteers to help with garbage pickup projects while the national government shutdown continues.

Volunteer Coordinator Birdie Garrity says garbage issues are starting to form in numerous areas across the park. Since the shutdown began, garbage is not being picked up and garbage cans are not being emptied.

Anyone interested in helping out can email volunteer@friendsoflbl.org.

Volunteers are needed to pick up any garbage on the ground, empty all trash cans and bring tied-up bags to a dumpster, put new garbage bags in the garbage cans, and take a look at any dumpsters and report to Garrity any that are getting full.

Areas in need of attention:
* North Welcome Station
* South Welcome Station
* Fenton (boat ramp area, bike trail crossing, picnic pavilion area)
* Devil’s Elbow Boat Ramp
* Parking Lot by Lake Barkley Bridge on Highway 68/80 (right near the turn that takes you to Energy Lake Campground)
* Day Use Area near Lake Barkley Bridge between all four lanes of Highway 68/80
* Rifle Range (if you choose this area please give Garrity a few days notice so they can arrange safety considerations with law enforcement)

A few other important notes:
* Please bring large garbage bags and gloves with you.
* Please do not wear any official volunteer shirts with the Forest Service logo on them.
* Please RSVP to Garrity by emailing volunteer@friendsoflbl.org so she can keep track of which areas are getting covered and possibly help to find dumpsters.
