The 9th Annual Kentucky State Police “Cram the Cruiser” food drive was a huge success and raised more than 211 tons or 422,682 pounds of food to help families across the state.

Due to the generous giving spirits of individuals, businesses, schools, and civic organizations throughout the state, KSP Commissioner Rick Sanders says they were able to assist Kentucky families who may be financially strapped this holiday season.

KSP started the Cram the Cruiser program in 2010 to assist needy families in its local post and region areas. Since then, officials say the agency has contributed to nearly two million pounds of food to shelters, food banks, and churches throughout the Commonwealth.

Sanders adds helping those in need is the core of what being a member of the KSP family really is — service to others.

Over the years, officials the campaign has developed into a friendly competition among KSP posts. This year, Post 7 in Richmond took top honors with a total of 59,279 pounds of food collected.
