The U.S. House of Representatives passed the five-year Agriculture Improvement Act Wednesday afternoon.
Congressman James Comer, along with 368 other congressional colleagues, voted in support of the bill, according to a release. Comer says the Farm Bill includes many incremental wins for rural America. He notes it fully protects crop insurance, makes significant improvements to rural broadband, and implements key changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
During difficult economic times for farms across the country, overall Congressman Comer says this bill provides certainty to farmers and provides tools for a more successful future in rural America.
On Tuesday, the Senate adopted the compromise with an 87-13 vote. U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell applauded the Senate’s passage. McConnell tells the News Edge he is pleased with the language in the Farm Bill concerning Industrial Hemp.
