Pennyrile Electric crews have made significant progress in restoring power this afternoon after a winter storm moved across the area overnight, causing icy conditions that downed tree limbs and power lines.
After reporting 61 outages affecting over 937 members as of mid-day, spokesman Brent Gilkey says things are looking a lot better this afternoon and adds crews have done a fantastic job restoring power.

At the peak of the power outages last night, Gilkey says more than 6,000 customers were affected.

He notes icy tree limbs were the main cause of the outages.

Gilkey says their crews and contractors received some extra help to restore power today from West Kentucky Electric.If all goes well, he says they should have all the power restored tonight.
