Trigg County Sheriff Elect Will Be Sworn-In Thursday

After being elected in the May primary, the new sheriff of Trigg County will be joining the department a couple of months before the start of his four-year term. Sheriff Ray Burnam tells the News Edge Jason Barnes will begin the transition with the sheriff’s office on November 1st.

After a 20-year career in law enforcement, Sheriff Burnam announced in September he would be retiring December 1st before the end of his term. Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander will appoint Barnes as sheriff for the month of December and then he will take office on January 1.

Barnes has over a decade of law enforcement experience and at the time of the Republican Primary in May he was a detective with the Hopkinsville Police Department. During the primary, he won eight precincts and Sheriff Burnam won four precincts. The candidates actually tied in the South Cadiz One and the West Montgomery precincts.

A post on social media says Barnes will be sworn in Thursday by Judge Alexander.
