Officials and community members gathered at the new 2nd Street Park in Hopkinsville for a ribbon cutting Tuesday afternoon.
Eastside Neighborhood President Christy Madyun says the park is just the beginning for improving the neighborhood, with plans to utilize the former Booker T. Washington Elementary School to help teach children and seniors valuable skills.
City Council Member Thomas Grant is proud to have the park complete, even though there were a lot of people saying it wasn’t going to happen.
Mayor Carter Hendricks adds 2nd Street Park is more than just a park.
The park located near 745 East Second Street features a basketball court, playground, pavilion, public restrooms, and more.
