U.S. Senate Passes Funding For Fort Campbell

Fort Campbell Army officials received some great news Wednesday. The Army base will receive more than $132 million after the U.S. Senate passed the National Defense Legislation Wednesday for a total of $150 million in funding secured by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The funding will be used to equip and train America’s 21st-century forces in Kentucky to meet and overcome today’s security challenges. The bill also supports our troops with a well-earned pay raise.

Senator McConnell helped secure authorization for the following priorities in the legislation for Fort Campbell:
– $32 million for a Vehicle Maintenance Shop
– $18 million for a Microgrid and Power Plant
– $62.6 million for the Fort Campbell Middle School
– $5.4 million for a Special Operations Forces Logistics Support Operations Facility
– $9.1 million for a Special Operations Forces Air/Ground Integration Urban Live Fire Range
– $5.1 million for a Special Operations Forces Multi-Use Helicopter Training Facility

At Fort Campbell, McConnell says in the release members of the 101st Airborne Division and a number of special operations units will benefit from the authorization of new investments in their training facilities.

Christian County Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Kelli Pendleton says the Chamber applauds passage of this critical defense authorization legislation. She adds the bill authorizes funding for key projects at Fort Campbell while supporting the base’s valuable service members and their families. She also thanked Senator McConnell for his leadership in passing the legislation.

McConnell also secured authorization for $26 million for a Digital Air/Ground Integration Range at Fort Knox; and $993.8 million for Department of Defense chemical agents and munitions destruction activities, which will support chemical demilitarization efforts at the Blue Grass Army Depot.

The bill now goes to President Donald Trump for his signature.
