A medical issue may have led to a single-vehicle wreck on East 9th Street Tuesday morning that sent a Hopkinsville man to the hospital.

Hopkinsville Police report the wreck occurred near Cedar Street shortly before 9am when 56-year old Bobby Mullen was driving eastbound and his car veered off the roadway onto the sidewalk and hit a crosswalk sign and a utility pole. Police say Mullen stated that his insulin had made him drowsy and he didn’t remember running off the road.

A witness reportedly told officers that he saw the driver with his head down appearing to be asleep just before the collision.

Police say Mullen complained of pain to his wrist and had blood coming from his nose. He was transported by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment.
