February Jobless Rates Fall In All Pennyrile Counties

Unemployment rates fell in 119 Kentucky counties, including the nine counties in the Pennyrile District, between February 2017 and February 2018, according to the latest statistics released by the Kentucky Center for Education and Workforce Statistics.

In the Pennyrile District, Livingston County recorded the highest jobless rate in February 2018 at 8.0 percent, down from 9.3 percent from February 2017.

Todd County recorded the lowest unemployment rate in the District in February 2018 at 4.3 percent, a slight drop from 4.5 percent from February of last year.

Caldwell County dropped to 5.1 percent in February, down from 6.2 percent from February 2017.

Christian County recorded a jobless rate of 5.3 percent in February, down considerably from 6.5 percent in February 2017.

In Crittenden County, the unemployment dropped to 5.5 percent from 6.4 percent in February 2017.

Hopkins County recorded a jobless rate of 4.6 percent in February, compared to 5.7 percent from the same month last year.

In Lyon County, the unemployment rate dropped significantly to 6.0 percent from 7.8 percent in February 2017.

In Muhlenberg County, February’s jobless rate was 7.0 percent, down from 7.7 percent last year.

In Trigg County, the unemployment rate dropped to 5.6 percent, down from 6.6 percent in February 2017.

Woodford County continued to record the lowest jobless rate in the state at 3.3 percent, while Magoffin County continued to record the highest unemployment rate at 15.2 percent.

It is worth noting that the unemployment rate in all nine counties in the Pennyrile were up slightly in February than in January of this year.

Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually count people working. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
