The recent cold snap is triggering a spike in energy use by Pennyrile Electric members and other utilities across the region. Pennyrile Electric spokesman Brent Gilkey says they want to encourage their members to be aware of their energy usage this time of the year.
He notes they have a few options available members can take advantage of.

Gilkey says your wintertime bill is higher because of the difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures.
He also offers some tips to reduce your energy consumption during the winter months.
And last but not least, Gilkey says keep your garage door closed which will make it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
