Motorists Should Prepare For Hazardous Road Conditions

The impact of the ice and snow will make driving conditions hazardous across the region. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says they have been preparing for wintry precipitation since April of last year, but this will be the first major winter storm of the season.

Due to the rain prior to the ice and snow event, Todd says some roads will still be pre-treated.

He says motorists need to be prepared for hazardous road conditions.

Todd adds that most of their trucks will have chains on the tires when they hit the roads Thursday night due to the difficulty they will have getting around.

He says they are encouraging those that have to get to work Friday morning to make alternate plans.

Due to temperatures dipping into the teens Saturday and maybe single digits during the overnight hours, along with wind gusts of 30 miles per hour, Todd adds roads conditions will remain hazardous over the weekend.

Motorists should also make sure you have a full tank of gas and an emergency kit in your vehicle with water, blankets, flashlights, and any other items you may need if you become stranded. The best advice we can give motorists is if you do not have to be out on the roads, please stay at home.
