WWI Commission Continues Fundraising For Memorial

As the US Mint prepares for the sale of World War I Centennial Silver Dollar, the Commissioner says those coins will help build the first monument honoring the fallen. Trigg County resident, Terry Hamby told the Cadiz Rotary Club that the modern soldier grew from WWI.

The National Commission works with the organizations across the country.

There will be 350,000 commemorative coins minted, with $10 from each sale going to the commission. That money will help pay for the monument.

Hamby says they have already been granted land in Pershing Park.

He adds World War I is the only war not honored in Washington, D.C.

Coins go on sale January 17 at 11am.
