Proposed Amendment Could Change State Elections

A proposed constitutional amendment could save more than 13 million dollars by changing the year in which state officials are elected. House Bill 23 was approved Monday by the House Elections, Constitutional Amendments and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee.

Chairman Kenny Imes, who represents Trigg and Calloway Counties, says the change would take effect in 2024.

The election change would save an estimated $13.5 in the state, with Trigg and Calloway Counties to directly benefit.

Imes adds the change would be a help to state officials as they begin to plan the budget and other state issues.

The constitutional amendment now heads to the Kentucky House of Representatives for a possible vote.
