Hopkinsville Man Charged After Loaded Gun Found In Vehicle

A traffic stop led to the arrest of a Hopkinsville man after police reportedly found a loaded gun inside the vehicle he was driving early Sunday morning. Hopkinsville Police report officers saw 31-year old James Jones at the intersection of Commonwealth Drive and Colonelette Drive traveling at a high rate of speed with his headlights off. Jones was pulled over at the intersection of Elm Street and Glass Avenue where he reportedly told officers he was speeding because he thought someone was chasing him.

After officers asked Jones to exit the vehicle, police say they conducted a pat down and found a loaded magazine on him. Police indicate they also found a handgun concealed under the the front compartment center console that was loaded, as well as small plastic baggies in the vehicle's compartment and in plain view in the front seat.

Jones was taken into custody just after 12:15 Sunday morning and booked into the Christian County Jail for Careless Driving and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon.
