From the Weather Edge: Forecasters say isolated severe thunderstorms will be possible late Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the area south of a line from just south of Paducah to near Owensboro under a slight risk of severe weather for that time period.

25th Anniversary of Gander Crash


Major General Retired John Herrling returned to Fort Campbell and Hopkinsville Sunday to help commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Gander, Newfoundland crash that claimed the lives of 248 Fort Campbell Soldiers and 8 crew members. Herrling was the 2nd Brigade Commander when the Arrow Air plane crashed during take off while carrying the soldiers home from a peace-keeping mission in the Sinai Peninsula.

The Festival of Trees is now underway at Janice Mason Art Museum in downtown Cadiz. This is always one of the favorite exhibits at the museum as it features creative ways to decorate trees, each with a theme for your personal enjoyment. 2010 Cadiz Christmas Parade


The night time parade in Cadiz is one of the favorites in the area and drew a large crowd to downtown Cadiz to celebrate the official opening of the Christmas season. Several downtown merchants stayed open late and served refreshments. The Janice Mason Art Museum hosted hundreds of guests who were there to view the Festival of Trees. The parade was broadcast live on Boomer Radio. WKDZ/WHVO's Group General Manager, Beth Mann, was the Grand Marshal.

Christian County's inaugural Festival of Trees is officially underway, after a Business After Hours at the event last night, hosted by Kroger and sponsored by Cornerstone Information Systems. There are some 50 trees, and you can purchase raffle tickets to win your favorite! See the trees at the old Goody's location at Bradford Square Mall until they're given away on Sunday afternoon, December 5th.

More than 170 people participated in the 12th annual Toys for Tots Trail Ride Sunday on the Vinson farm. The ride was held in memoryof Gordon and Martha Mitchell.

Halloween Costume Contest


Youngsters in their ghoulish disguises descended upon the Bradford Square Mall for the Annual Hallowen Costumes contest and parade sponsored by the Hopkinsville Divsion of Parks and Mall Merchants. Kids in costume got free trick or treat bags and prizes from Mall Merchants were drawn for. Also in attendance was County Historian William Turner who told the tale of the Bell Witch and Sparky the Firedog.

Pink Out 2010


WKDZ/WHVO thanks everyone involved in Pink Out 2010 at our studios. Our primary goal was to raise awareness about the importance of mammograms and early detection. We had approximately 250 survivors and supporters in attendance and raised several thousand dollars for Relay for Life. Totals will be announced November 1st at Patriot Chevrolet Buick GMC.

Lunch and Learn Event


Thanks to Trigg County Hospital for hosting the Lunch and Learn Event at the Cadiz Christian Church Fellowship Hall Friday. A delicious lunch was enjoyed courtesy of TC Hospital. Dr. Shea Godwin was the guest speaker. Lots of good information was shared.

The Cadiz/Trigg County Commerce Center Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting was held Tuesday, October 12, with a huge crowd on hand. This is the home of the Cadiz/Trigg County Chamber of Commerce, The Cadiz/Trigg County Development Commision, and the Cadiz/Trigg County Tourism Commission.

The Sgt.-Majors Association from Fort Campbell took top honors during the Annual Freedom Friday Chili Cookoff in downtown Hopkinsville. The Hopkinsville Fire Department took first place honors, with a new team, the Hopkinsville High School Culinary Class, taking second. Five Star Radio took third place, and Budweiser of Hopkinsville took fourth.

PowWow


The 23rd annual Trail of Tears Intertribal PowWow to benefit the historic Trail of Tears Park brought dancers, venders, and observers from all over to Hopkinsville for a weekend of Native American dance, music, food, and art. This was the last year for the PowWow in its present location. Next year, organizers hope to move the festivities to higher ground a couple of hundred yards South of the current location in the park.

Christian County Salutes Fort Campbell


Oak Grove Tourism sponsored its annual Kickoff of Christian County Salutes Fort Campbell Week with its usual family friendly event complete with hotdogs, cold drinks, bouncers, pony and train rides, static military displays, and musical entertainment from the 101st Barbershop Quartet and Dixieland Band. All of the concessions and activities were free to the public.

Maddux Funeral Home


Maddux Funeral Home in Pembroke was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon. Area volunteer fire departments, assisted by a ladder truck from Hopkinsville, fought the blaze, but the 50 plus year old building was destroyed.

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Chamber of Commerce welcomed the Christian County Cattlemen's Association to the Chamber, and cut the ribbon to help kick off this weekend's Rodeo. Rodeo Committee Chair, Jason Jenkins, says the event that is being put on by Lone Star Rodeo Company, will help the Association raise money for scholarships.

101ST SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE PREPARES FOR DEPLOYMENT


Mar. 4: The 101st Sustainment Brigade at Fort Campbell has deployed 4 times since 9/11/2001 and almost always has a company deployed in support of the nation's War on Terrorism. Take an in depth look into how they train to clear houses, like infantry men, and how they perform their normal duties make sure supplies get where they need to be.

2010 Polar Plunge


The 2010 Polar Plunge to benefit special Olympics Kentucky was held Saturday, February 20, at Kentucky Dam Village. It was the first time a Polar Plunge has been held in this area, and it was a huge success with over 145 people taking the plunge into Kentucky Lake. Duncan Wiggins represented Trigg County with donations totaling over $1100 - more than $27,000 was raised!

Trigg county emergency personnel responded to an evening house fire on Mack Cunningham Road around 5:30. The house reportedly belongs to Brandon and Kelly Fowler.

EAGLE CRUISE


WKDZ's Alan Watts was aboard the CQ Princess as it set sail Monday from Lake Barkley State Resort Park in search of eagles. Mary Schmidt lead the tour and spotted 35 eagles with the help of many media guests. The colder weather over the weekend brought out 55 eagles on the boat tour Saturday and 50 on Sunday. Trigg County Helping Hands


The Trigg County Helping Hands Organization raised more than $650 Saturday during their third annual Sweet Treats fundraiser at the Cadiz Christian Church Fellowship Hall. Supporters purchased nearly 130 pounds of cookies and candy to help raise the money. The organization also received $350 in donations to purchase Christmas Baskets this Christmas. Betty McVey won a Cracker Barrel gift card and JoAnn Harvey won a Cat In The Hat Wreath donated by Loose Treasures. (Full Gallery)
