Pregnant women because they are at higher risk of complications and can potentially provide protection to infants who cannot be vaccinated.

Household contacts and caregivers of children 6 months and younger because younger infants cannot be vaccinated.

Healthcare workers and emergency services personnel because infections among healthcare providers can be a source of infection for vulnerable patients.

Children 6 months through 4 years of age because they are often in close contact with other children in daycare and preschool settings.

Children 5 years through 18 years of age because they are in close contact with each other in the school setting, which increases the likelihood of disease spread.

Adults 19 years through 24 years of age because there have been many cases of H1N1 flu in these healthy young adults and they are often highly mobile and live, work and study in close proximity.
