2008 Trigg County Breakfast with Santa


Yes, Santa had jolly time with everyone who attended the Breakfast with Santa bright and early Saturday morning. Although his reindeer were resting for their long trip around the world in a couple of weeks, Santa was in high spirits meeting the young and old of Trigg County.

2008 Festival of Trees at the Janice Mason Art Museum


The trees were spectacular and the displays of holiday cheer were warm and bright. Several families and businesses in the local area of Cadiz decorate a Christmas tree each year and the Janice Mason Art Museum celebrates by putting out a beautiful array for their opening night gala Festival of Trees.

2008 Cadiz Christmas Parade


It was a joyous occasion for young and old alike to come out and enjoy the traditional Christmas Parade through downtown Cadiz. The theme this year was the Magic of Christmas, and what a magical night it was! Click here for photos.

The traditional Hopkinsville Christmas Parade was well attended despite the chilly weather.  Our very own Amy Berry was honored as the Grand Marshall for the parade this year and the floats were spectacular.  D. 2008 Helping Hands Food Drive at Hancock's


This may the worst year for families who are laid off from local jobs and more than ever the needs of these families is foremost in the minds of those not so unfortunate in our community. Once again, the community came together to help Helping Hands stock their shelves and to raise over $2000 in monetary donations.  We can be thankful that we live in a community that truly cares.

President Bush Visits Ft. Campbell


President Bush came to Ft. Campbell to thank the soldiers for their commitment to their country. President  Bush also awarded the Volunteer Service Award to SSgt Josh Forbess, who was injured in 2003 when his Blackhawk helicopter went down in Iraq. WKDZ/WHVO hosted the Hopkinsville/Christian County Chamber of Commerce After Hours Thursday, November 20th.  WKDZ/WHVO were pleased to help them celebrate.  Hospice is such an awesome organization, and we encourage you to support Pennyroyal Hospice. 

Aaron Tippin Helps Celebrate the Grand Opening of the Vice


A rowdy crowd gathered around Aaron Tippin as he showed his appreciation to the military as part of the grand opening of what is now fondly referred to as "The Vice", Oak Grove's new amphitheater.  The grand opening was Saturday, November 15th, and WKDZ/WHVO were honored to be part of the celebration.  Click here for photos. 

2008 Relay for Life Fashion Show


Bill Booth was putting on the ritz as the ladies and gentlemen modeled the latest styles from Peebles. The show was a complete sellout for the 2nd year in a row.

Veterans Day Celebration in St. Croix, V. I.


This photo gallery is dedicated to Sandra Myers who is the most patriotic person we know.  She is so proud of our veterans from all over the United States, and heads up many of the local veterans initiatives.  Sandra, the U.S. V.I. celebration held on 11/11/08 honored our veterans who make up the highest per capita in the U.S.A. for military duty.

TWO AND A HALF MONTH OLD TWINS, BROOK AND ADDISON HUMPHRIES, WERE ON HAND TO MEET WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE DOLLYWOOD FOUNDATION, DAVID DOTSON, AND REGIONAL DIRECTOR, CHRISTY CROUSE AT THE IMAGINATION LIBRARY RECEPTION. 08 Cadiz Veteran's Service


There was no parade due to inclement weather, but the Veterans Day Service was packed full of veterans, family and friends at the VFW.  Special tribute was given to Herb Follis, who had passed away the previous weekend and who was scheduled to be the Grand Marshall for the parade this year. His family was honored for his service he provided to his country and this community. Click on the photo to see more pictures of the service.

2008 US Marine Corps Birthday Breakfast


A very large crowd of Marine, Navy, Army and Air Force veterans, friends and their families were present at the Marine Corps Breakfast. A moment of silence was held for Herb Follis, a  member of the Marine Corps League and Sergeant at Arms for the detachment. Rachel, a current member of the Marine Corps League, was on hand to bring you photos of the ceremony.

The day was beautiful for honoring our men and women who have served our country. Carter Hendricks was the master of ceremonies and he proudly encouraged everyone to thank a veteran for the freedoms we enjoy. 
 

2008 Trigg County Chamber Dinner


It was a lovely evening for the Trigg County Chamber Dinner. The evening was lively and several awards were handed out. The presidential gavel was passed on to John Durden as he looks forward to a new year with the Trigg County Chamber of Commerce.

REPRESENTATIVE JAMES "JIM" BRUCE PASSED AWAY NOVEMBER 2ND AT HIS HOME.  FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD TODAY (WEDNESDAY) NOVEMBER 5TH.  THERE WAS A NUMBER OF CONGRESSMEN FROM ACROSS THE STATE IN ATTENDANCE.

October 21 Broadbent Tobacco Barn Fire


DEVASTATION FOR A LOCAL FARMER LATE (TUESDAY) AFTERNOON AS A DARK TOBACCO BARN WENT UP IN SMOKE AND BURNED TO THE GROUND. FIREFIGHTERS OF THE MONTGOMERY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE DISPATCHED TO THE TOBACCO BARN FIRE ON BROADBENT ROAD AROUND 4:15. INITIAL REPORTS INDICATED THAT THE BARN WAS ALREADY FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES WHEN FIREFIGHTERS WERE SENT TO THE SCENE.


NATIONAL ARMY FIELD BAND CONCERT


Area veterans, spouses, friends, and supporters attended the Army Field Band Concert at the Carson’s Four Rivers Center, Sunday, October 19th, courtesy of WKDZ/WHVO and Holiday Limousine.  The National Army Field Band put on a spectacular show, and everyone loved the venue.  We are proud of our veterans and also support our troops who are serving us all over the world.

Trigg County Pink Ribbon Network Luncheon.


There was a Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon in the Renaissance Center in Cadiz. The luncheon and auction helped raise $1100 for the Trigg County Pink Ribbon Network Foundation. The Foundation's spokerperson, Lisa Cunningham, said she felt this was something she was called to do - to reach out and touch those who have been affected by breast cancer.

Youth Leadership on the Farm


 The high school youth leadership program had a "field" day at Seven Springs and then at Cundiff farms. Check out the photos.

Thousands of people thronged the Main Street of Cadiz this afternnon to enjoy Ham Festival. The weather was perfect and you couldn't ask for a better day to celebrate the 32nd Ham Festival.

From start to finish, the World's Largest Edible Ham Biscuit is something to brag about. Pictures just simply could not do justice to the smell or the heavenly taste of that biscuit. It was a beautiful show put on by the young ladies of Trigg County. Miss Trigg County was Cheniqua Williams and First Runner up and Miss Congeniality was Dori Sheehan. Check out the marvelouse photos of the pageant.

TRIGG COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER PROJECT UPDATE


The Trigg County Justice Center took on some more visual character Wednesday with the addition of the tower toppers at each end.  Each piece weighed 15,000 pounds and were hoisted by a crane, causing Main Street downtown to be closed.  The east tower will house a clock, similar to the courthouse that burned on the same site in 1920.

3rd Annual Bark in the Park


The dogs and their staff all came out to have a howling good time at Ruff Park on Saturday, September 27th. Bark in the Park is a fundraiser for the Pennyrile Elder Abuse Council and this year the number of dog and people doubled from previous years. VFW Post 1913 9-11 Service 2008

The United Way of the Pennyrile is redirecting the Agency's focus for the 2008 Fall Campaign. During the Kickoff Breakfast, the focus had been changed from a financial goal to a one of education, income and health. WKDZ's Tammy Hancock brought us these photos.

Meet and Greet Pancake Dinner at Trigg County Schools


Parents and children attended the Meet and Greet at Trigg County Schools where they learned about various community groups. These groups included the Trigg County C.E.R.T., the A.S.K. Resource center and such study activities like Nutrition. Rachel Longworth and her son William visited, received information from the different tables and had some great pancakes. 2008 Trigg County Gala of Tables


It was a beautiful group of tables all decorated for the Gala. Superintendent Tim McGinnis welcomed all employees back to the school for the new year. He also introduced and welcomed all the new Trigg County Schools Employees. Breakfast was catered by Four Seasons and it was a wonderful and exciting occasion. 2008 Pump Up the Volume!


Western Ky Regional Blood Center has a great opening day for their Pump Up the Volume campaign. Drew Wilson's son was the first 16 year old to give blood after the new law signed July 15 allowed 16 year olds to give blood with parental consent. For the entire event spanning three days and they needed 250 donors and they are well on their way toward meeting that goal. Check out the photos taken by Amy Berry.

Alice in Wonderland Cast stopped by WKDZ/WHVO studios!


They were all "madly" ready to perform starting on Friday, July 11 at 7 pm. Their bright, smiling faces and eagerness was reflected in their interview with Carrie Utter. Ever wanted to see a "Living Museum"? Did you eat at the restaurant "Crockets"? Have you seen Lone Oak in the last 6 years? These were the questions Hopkinsville Historian William Turner asked the crowd that had gathered for the museum's ribbon cutting on June 25, 2008. Rachel Longworth took the photographs that you see here of what it looks like today. Notice that the top level windows are differnt from the bottom level windows. According to the current owner, Jim Corsey, the upper level rooms were added later.

Trigg County Primary School Awards


Awards were given to students in Primary School for the monthly Reading, Math, and Most Improved. As an additional surprise, there were end of the year awards in those categories as well. Live Afternoon Drive at Lakeland Kawasaki

The new produce section looked spectacular as you can see in these photos. Bill and Cindy had a wonderful time and you can tell the store owner Mallory is very pleased to finally be able to display all her fruits and vegetables and even bring in newones and new ideas to the family table, especially for those families on the go. We just let the "Broccoli Woccoli" speak for itself.

The festivities of the opening day of Farmers Market in Hopkinsville was marvelous. WHVO was there with Alan Watts and Amy Berry and the pictures reflect the fun time had by all. Not to mention the beautiful produce brought in by local area farmers.

Trigg County 7th Graders get a Taste of Reality


7th Graders in Trigg County were busy making trying to make ends meet in the reality store. It was amazing to watch how little the students were willing to spend on things and most were working 2 or 3 jobs just to makeends meet. Yes, there was one real horse and 15 stick ones to run the races in Hopkinsville during the Derby Arts Festival 2008. Second Annual Day of Service-Alex Jenkins


Kudos to Alex Jenkins for her Second Annual Day of Service project that drew several Trigg County students to the Trigg County gymnasium Saturday.  They raised funds for the Trigg Co. High School Student Relay for Life team.  Among those attending were First District U. S. Congressman Ed Whitfield and 8th District State Representative John Tilley.

Pennyroyal Hospice Ribbon Cutting Ceremony


Some 200 people helped Pennyroyal HOSPICE celebrate their new location with a ribbon-cutting Monday, April 28th. The beautiful new facility is located at 220 Burley Avenue, Hopkinsville, just off Lafayette Raod and Eagle Way Bypass. WKDZ/WHVO's Bill Booth was on hand to broadcast live for the special event!

Trigg County Hospital held a reception in honor of the late Ms. Jean Ricks whose generosity provided new patient beds, side tables, over-bed tables and stretchers for patient rooms. Cindy Allen Lax attended thereception and brought us these photos.

Alhambra Theater Renovation and Ribbon Cutting


Alhambra Theater had its ribbon cutting ceremony today at 11 am. Those that were present were given a rare treat of touring the newly renovated parts, including the restrooms. The history behind the theater, celebrating 80 years this year, can be seen inside the theater itself where restoration is still taking place.

April 2008 Trigg County Chamber of Commerce


The April meeting of the Cadiz/Trigg County Chamber of Commerce was held Wednesday at noon at Pennyrile Electric in Cadiz. Kitty Calhoun, of Air Evac was the guest speaker.  Approximately 20 people were on hand for the meeting. A delicious catered meal for Hancock’s Neighborhood Market (courtesy of Pennyrile Electric) was enjoyed by all. WKDZ/WHVO's Cindy Allen Lax brought us these photos from the meeting.

2008 Rotary Radio Auction Kickoff Breakfast


Over 180 people attended the Kickoff Breakfast at the Lake Barkley Convention Center. The first auction of the Rotary was  of a world-famous Tiny Guier ham, which was purchased in honor of State Senator Ken Wintersby J.D. The smell of spring was in the air at Hopkinsville Outdoor Equipment! The mowers, trimmers, and even garden utensils were just waiting to be used for that first yard work of the season. Geneva Harper Wyatt's "Lifetime of Quilting" display helped to raise money this past weekend for Trigg County's Helping Hands.  The show was on display at the Cadiz Christian Church annex.  They served a fabulous lunch and charged a donation toHelping Hands for admission to the show.  Click here for a few of the highlights of the show, provided by Carrie Utter.  The quilts were stunning.

Trigg County School's Dodge Ball Rotary Fundraiser Tournament


         Trigg County Public School's faculty, students and others were doing their part to raise funds for the Rotary Club by hosting a Dodge Ball Tournament Friday at the TriggCounty High School Gymnasium. Cadiz - Trigg County Chamber of Commerce March Meeting


Cadiz-Trigg County Chamber of Commerce had a joint meeting with the Kiwanis Club during their monthly meeting. The featured speaker was Michael Pape, Congressman Ed Whitfield's Field Representative. Issued that were discussed include the Western Kentucky roadways and the funding for the bridges, the Lake Barkley water levels staying at summer pool until after Labor day for tourism, the economy and public safety, as well as funding for alternative fuel development. Home Show 2008


Home Show 2008 officially kicked off with the ribbon cutting and an auction Friday, February 28th and runs thru March 2nd.  WKDZ/WHVO will be there all weekend bringing you live coverage.  Home Show 2008 features over 80 booths with everything from landscaping to financing. 

Currahee VIP Day at WKDZ/WHVO


WKDZ/WHVO welcomed officers from the Currahee in our studios February 29th as part of our Afghanistan VIP Day.  Officers were interviewed on our station as part of their final training before deploying to Afghanistan.  In Afghanistan, the primary means of communication is radio.  We were honored to be part of their training. 

Currahees Signify End of Combat Preparation


The 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, cased its colors February 28th to symbolize the end of their combat preparation and the beginning of their rendezvous with destiny.  Nearly 3,800 soldiers are making final preparations to deploy to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.  WKDZ/WHVO's Mike Crowder was there and shares these photos.
