One Person Injured In Four Vehicle Crash

One person was transported following a four vehicle accident early Saturday afternoon on the Pennyrile Parkway in Hopkins County. State Police say 90-year old Lonnie Todd, of Madisonville, was northbound, near the 40 mile marker, just south of the Earlington exit. 40-year old Thomas Drake Jr., of White Plains, was behind Todd’s pickup in his pickup truck. 44-year old Bill Pailin Jr., of Covington, Tennessee was behind Drake in a station wagon. 46-year old Paula Berry, of Mortons Gap, was behind Pailin.

For unknown reasons, Todd stopped in the right northbound lane of travel, just south of exit 40. The front bumper of Drake’s vehicle then collided with the rear bumper of Todd’s vehicle.  The impact caused both vehicles to cross into the emergency strip, striking a guardrail. The impact of the collision caused Todd’s vehicle to come to final rest on top of the guardrail at the northbound KY 2171 overpass, facing north.  Drake’s vehicle came to final rest in the northbound emergency strip facing north.

Following the collision with Todd’s vehicle, Pailin attempted to slow and avoid a second collision but was struck in the rear by Berry’s vehicle.  Pailin’s vehicle came to final rest partially in the median facing north, while Berry’s vehicle came to final rest in the right lane of travel facing northeast.

Todd was transported by ambulance to Baptist Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained as a result of the collision.  None of the other drivers, or any of their passengers were injured. The accident occurred around 12:53pm Saturday.
