Holiday Elementary Government Day

Local elected officials addressed an assembly of Holiday Elementary 5th graders Tuesday for the school’s annual Government Day. Circuit Judge Andrew Self, former State Senator Joey Pendleton, Hopkinsville City Councilman Charlie Henderson, and Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp sat on a panel discussing and answering questions on local and national government. Judge Self reminisced about his time as a student the first year Holiday opened, and the quality education he received.

Mayor Kemp conducted a civics test with the students as they raised their hands to answer his questions. Kemp told The News Edge he feels this type of program is important.

Senator Pendleton explained to the 5th graders the protocol for a bill as it passes through the General Assembly:

Councilman Henderson says he enjoys working with children each chance he gets:

Holiday Elementary School Principal Brooke Stinson was impressed that the local leaders took time out of their busy schedules to address her school and the enjoyment they receive from the students.
