State Senate Approves School Days Legislation

Kentucky school districts would be able to request a waiver from the required instructional hours under proposed legislation that was approved Monday by the Kentucky Senate. The measure unanimously approved on a 38-0 vote, would allow districts to submit revised calendars to the Kentucky Education commissioner to adjust for lost instructional time.

If, after submitting the revised calendar, a district could still not make up all of the time lost to this year's winter weather, the district could then request a waiver. Last week, the Kentucky House approved legislation that would grant ten days to school districts across the state struggling with their school calendars. The Senate made its changes to that proposal before its vote on Monday.
