First Lady Celebrates Kentucky Literacy Week

Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear stopped by Let’s Go Play Academy Monday morning as she makes her way across the Commonwealth in recognition of Kentucky Literacy Week, stressing the importance of reading and early childhood education. Beshear told the News Edge that early literacy training is the key to preparing children for K-12 education.

Beshear toured the facility and took time out to read "The Squeaky Door" to a class of four and five year old children. The children helped out the First Lady by making the fun sounds the book requires. Beshear told the News Edge that she will be reading with children at all her stops today.

The children at the academy presented Beshear with red roses before she left for next stop at Fort Campbell.
