Possible Scam In The Area

The Christian County Sheriff's Department is advising residents to be on the lookout for a scam operating in the area. Officials say under the scam, a person having something to sell using an online service was contacted by a "potential buyer." The buyer sent the seller a check for $2,000 more than the item is worth and instructed them to cash the check, keep double what the item was worth, and then send the rest of the cash back with the item.

The buyer claims they need to perform the transaction in that manner due to problems with their local bank, lack of a checking account, or other reasons. The Christian Count Sheriff's Department notes that, in this case, the person selling the item called the Sheriff's Department, before any transactions were made.
