Former Soldier Sentenced To Four Years In Shooting

A former Fort Campbell soldier has been sentenced to a total of four years in prison in connection to the death of another soldier in 2012. According to information in the Leaf Chronicle, 28-year old Benjamin Schweitzer had been convicted, in August, of Reckless Homicide, in the death of 26-year old Frederic "Nic" Moses, who was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group.

During the trial, Schweitzer testified he was asleep, thought he heard an intruder, and reacted by shooting, not realizing it was Moses who was approaching him. Schweitzer, who was a guest , claimed he had taken a sedative prior to the incident. The report in the Leaf Chronicle goes on to say that Schweitzer apologized during the sentencing proceedings.
