Fatal House Fire In Calloway County Under Investigation

State Police have now identified the victims in a house explosion and fire in Calloway County. According to an updated report, the surviving victims of the house explosion are 54-year old Marty Story, of Murray, 41-year old Melissa Mcleod, of Hazel, 60-year old Ira Greer, of Almo, and 70-year old Barbara Parker, of Murray. All of the surviving victims remain in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Hospital. The deceased victim has been identified as 72-year old Kenneth Story, of Murray.

Kentucky State Police, the State Fire Marshal's Office, and the Calloway County Coroner's Office continue to investigate the explosion and fire at 669 Cook Store Trail, near Coldwater, in Calloway County.  Police say the single story home was leveled in an explosion that severely injured four adults and killed one man Saturday just after 7:00 pm.

Story was pronounced dead at the scene by Calloway County Coroner Rick Harris.  One victim, Parker, was airlifted from the scene to Vanderbilt, while the other three of the surviving victims were initially transported to Murray-Calloway County Hospital, before being transported to Vanderbilt.

The investigation, thus far, according to KSP, has centered on a liquid propane wall heater and potential LP gas leak as the cause of the explosion and resulting fire.  The home was a total loss.

The Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the State Fire Marshal's Office, Calloway County Sheriff's Department, Calloway County Fire/Rescue, Farmington Fire Department, Murray/Calloway County EMS, and the Calloway County Coroner's Office.  The investigation is continuing by KSP Detective Steve Silfies.
