The 2nd Brigade Combat Team will be awarded the nation's highest honor for a unit, the Presidential Unit Citation. Strike Brigade Officials say the brigade is being honored with the award for its actions and accomplishments while deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan, during Operation Enduring Freedom 10-11.
The deep-blue ribbon in a gold frame will be bestowed upon those who served in the unit during OEF 10-11 as a permanent award and will also be worn by all future members of the unit on their dress uniforms during the time they are assigned to the brigade.
To be awarded the citation, the unit must have been set apart and above other units participating in the same campaign in their display of gallantry, determination, and spirit de corps under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions to accomplish the mission.
The actions required to be awarded the citation could not reasonably be performed for any extended time periods except under very unusual circumstances. Rarely will a unit larger than a battalion meet the qualifications for award of this decoration, but 2nd Brigade officials say "Strike has defied the odds."
