Local Law Enforcement On Lowering Legal BAC Limit

As part of their board meeting last week the National Safety Transportation Board discussed lowering the legal blood alcohol limit as a method of reducing drunk driving but opinions locally differ on what effect it would have. Trigg County Sheriff Ray Burnam says he would agree with a stricter limit on drunk driving.

Cadiz Police Chief Chad Grace says he thinks the change would help some but they are having more problems with drug DUIs.

Christian County Sheriff Livy Leavell says when the limit was dropped to .08 there was a substantial amount of research showing that a person was imparied at that point.

Hopkinsville Police Guy Howie says he's not certain that dropping the limit would help but does agree that something should be done to stop drinking and driving.

The NTSB has recommended that elected officials look at legislation to drop the legal limit from .08 to .05.
