Cadiz-Trigg County EDC Applying For Community Ready Program

The Cadiz-Trigg County Economic Development Commission is ready to submit its application to the Workforce Community Ready Program. The EDC has been working for months toward the application that could result in a Workforce Community Ready designation for the county. The label should give the community an advantage in recruiting new businesses to the area.

As part of the application process, community assessments have led to discussions about telecommunications and internet services in Trigg County. Access to both internet and cell phone services is becoming more and more important, and Trigg County has lagged behind.

Dan Bozarth, who was just reappointed to a three-year term on the board, says new options for internet service may be available in Trigg County in the near future. Hopkinsville Electric plans to offer broadband service, and FastNet, a wireless internet company, hopes to expand in the area soon.

Bozarth says new internet providers will not only increase internet speeds in the area. More providers will have a positive impact on consumer pricing, as well.

In other business the EDC is considering adding a geographical information system tool on its website. The new marketing tool is offered by TVA to small communities like Cadiz for $500 per year. EDC Director Sharon Butts says the tool will simplify the research process for industrial prospects by displaying customized information about property and businesses directly on the EDC site.
