Comer Confident About Industrial Hemp Bill

Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner James Comer says he feels positive about the chance of the industrial hemp bill passing the Kentucky General Assembly during the upcoming session. Commissioner Comer says he was pleased to add the recent endorsement of Senator Mitch McConnell, with some other key members of the federal delegation from Kentucky also supportive.

Comer says the endorsements and support will help the proposal gain momentum for a hearing in the Senate Agriculture Committee next week.

Comer adds despite opposition from the Kentucky State Police Commissioner and Operation Unite, industrial hemp is getting support.

Comer adds he just wants to give farmers a chance to see if the crop can be a viable option in Kentucky.

Among those who are planning testify next Monday in Frankfort are Senator Rand Paul and third district Congressman John Yarmuth. Senate Bill 50 is being sponsored by State Senator Paul Hornback.
