Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp says he is in favor of a local option sales tax because the funding could be beneficial to one of his pet projects. Kemp told the News Edge Friday morning the Rail-to-trail project could move along faster with this kind of funding.
He adds the tax is still several years away.
In the mean time, Kemp says he and other are working to raise funds to complete the first part of the project.
The Mayor says he hopes this time next year people will be able to walk from downtown Hopkinsville to Pardue Lane and back on the trail. The first phase of the Rail-to-Trail Project is estimated to cost 1.8 million dollars before the in-kind services.
