A Todd County native is among those comprising the inaugural class of the Kentucky Writers Hall of Fame. Guthrie native Robert Penn Warren, along with Harriette Arnow, William Wells Brown, Harry Caudill, Elizabeth Madox Roberts, and James Still became the first members of the hall. The inaugural class was limited to writers who had passed away.
Warren was a poet, novelist, and literary critic. He received the 1947 Pulitzer Prize for the Novel for "All the King's Men" and the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1958 and 1979. He is the only person to have won Pulitzer Prizes for both fiction and poetry. The Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning in Lexington is the host site for the Hall of Fame.
