Even with a request from the Governor to hold off on the matter, it appears that state House Speaker Greg Stumbo is moving forward on the issue of legislative redistricting by seeking proposals on the divisive issue.
Reports indicate that Stumbo sent a letter to House members asking for them to submit proposals on new boundaries for the new legislative districts by February 1st. Stumbo added after the proposals come in, lawmakers would decide whether or not to try and address the issue during the 2013 General Assembly, which resumes on February 5 and is set to end March 26.
The Governor has said delaying the redistricting issue would allow lawmakers to focus more time and energy on reforming the state's pension program for government retirees and for reforming the state's tax code. The Governor did bring up the possibility of a special session to deal with redistricting.
