Officials at Jennie Stuart Medical Center are pleased to bring a free, traveling art exhibit called Lilly Oncology On Canvas to the E.C. Green Cancer Center. The exhibit comprises five paintings by patients with various forms of cancer and is on display through Tuesday, February 19. The cancer center is open Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
JSMC Radiation Oncology director and RN Sheila Sadler says this exhibit honors the journeys people face when confronted by a cancer diagnosis and the hospital is honored to be included in the nationwide tour, but she asks visitors be respectful of patients and their families while in the cancer center as the department treats up to 100 patients per day.
The exhibit is sponsored by Lilly USA, LLC and the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. It includes 25 works, some of which are on display at several hospitals at a time across the U.S. The paintings are included in the exhibit as the result of a competition among hundreds of entrants each year. Launched in 2004, Oncology On Canvas has received more than 4,100 entries.
