Saturday will be one year since the Delta Mariner struck the Eggners Ferry Bridge knocking a 320 foot section into Kentucky Lake and changed life for many western Kentuckians for several months.
Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says he is really thankful that there was no loss of life during the incident.
Todd says he commends the emergency responders who were the first boots on the ground that night.
Once it was found that the span could be rebuilt the state moved quickly and were able to reopen the bridge before Memorial Day. Todd says we owe that quick work to Transportation Cabinet engineers and Hall Contracting.
Officials say the report from the Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board is expected soon and legislation continues to go on regarding the liability of Foss Maritime in the incident.
