US Representative Ed Whitfield will continue to serve as chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy and Power of the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee, after being reappointed this week. As chairman, Whitfield has been a leading advocate on behalf of the Kentucky coal industry.
During the 112th Congress, Chairman Whitfield held 48 hearings and helped usher through the House of Representatives 17 bills with bipartisan support, which he says focused on reining in President Obama's regulatory overreach and stopping harmful policies that discourage job growth. In the new Congress, Whitfield says he will continue his efforts to ensure that regulations and red tape are not stifling job growth, help advance North American energy independence by promoting our country's abundant natural resources, including coal, and work to reduce the size and scope of the federal government by reducing wasteful and unnecessary spending.
